Cameron Boyce, Death by Sezure

Today we heard of the tragic death of Disney star Cameron Boyce.  He died in his sleep yesterday from a seizure.

While my son was in the hospital May and part of June, he got to watch a LOT of kid TV shows, including "Jessie" and Disney's "The Descendents" (1 and 2).  We got to see Cameron in so many shows ... over and over and over.

So when we heard of this young man's death, I struggled for air.  Death in his sleep.  Seizure.  Probably SUDEP.

As the mother of an epileptic, I hate seeing news like this.. of what I dread.  I can only imagine what his family must be going through.

How will I tell my son? How will he take it?

I sat down with him and as gently as possible, explained about Cameron.  That the news didn't report epilepsy or SUDEP but it probably was.  That this is exactly why I don't want him sleeping with too  many pillows.  Why I still check on him during the night.  Why I haven't slept well since 2011.

People need to know about epilepsy, and understand it is a killer.

Pass the word.

Epilepsy - One Mother's Perspective

As the mother of an adult autistic man who has uncontrolled epilepsy, I spent a while writing this book to give easy-to-read information about seizure and epilepsy basics, plus some frequently-used  terminology, symptoms and triggers, treatments, and possible surgeries.

It also gives logs and charts for you, as the epileptic, can keep track of important information (for your self AND your health care team) such as: important contacts, appointments, medications, discussions with doctors, blood work, occurrences of all sorts of seizure types, usage of a VNS swiper, and more.

Whether you have seizures or know someone or are taking of such a person, this book is indispensable. Please order your copy right away.

I am currently working on a companion Kindle book that goes more into our story of the seizures beginning and our journey to navigate the terror that goes along with it.  That short Kindle book will be made into an MP3 file that will be available for download, by individuals AND libraries. The goal for these is mid to late April 2019.

The paperback linked above is available now to purchase for your store, and I am available for talks and autographing.  Please contact me. Thank you.

TV and Movie Watching Journal

With the increase in binge-watching TV shows and groups of movies, especially now that Netflix, Amazon Prime, and other groups are producing their own, I found myself floundering in trying to remember what episode I left off with, or what obscure movies I've watched.

Hence, this journal.

I hope it helps you as much as it is helping me.

Thanks.

Bullet Dotted Journals - A New Fad

I had never heard of bullet journals (or dotted journals) until recently. Apparently, people use these books filled with dots to make their own lists and lines and charts, to organize their thinking, their projects and in some cases, their lives.

Here's hoping you can find one of these to be perfect for your needs.

Scorekeeping Logbook for Games

My nephew's birthday was coming up, which reminded me that he loves loves loves playing those multi-player games online, and other video games.

Then I found out my son needs another brain surgery in May.  When he's in the hospital, we almost always take a deck of UNO cards to have a friendly competition (he usually beats me).

Thus, this book was born.

Happy Birthday, Nephew.

Children's Handwriting Practice Workbook with Affirmations

Cursive handwriting was dropped from many schools’ curriculums in recent years, mainly because computers have taken over as the main way to do homework. But it’s important to bring it back: it uses a different set of muscles than printing, and it activates a different part of the brain. This workbook is a good opportunity to (1) learn how to read different types of cursive, (2) learn how to write different types of cursive, and (3) state positive affirmations to themselves as they copy them over and over on the pages (something our children need so very much).

Fidget Friendly Journal: For People Who Like to Keep Their Hands Busy

Fidgeting is “movements, especially feet and hands, which take place because of impatience or nervousness”. But we also see fidgeting as just not being able to stay still. It could be caused by ADD, ADHD, tics, or a whole variety of reasons, including stress. So many toys and gadgets are on the market to help people with their fidgeting but here is an alternative. This journal can be used to doodle, play games, write stories, or whatever comes to mind. Each page has a place to include the date and time, where you are and what you are doing. Perhaps by the end of the journal, you can see a pattern as to why you feel the need to fidget.

My autistic son is a person who fidgets and paces.  I have great hopes that he will enjoy this book too!

Family History Workbook

Here's one of my new books that is being published at Amazon.com tomorrow. With the recent passing of my mother, it got me thinking about how little I know about my family's past. Use it not only to keep records of what you know about your past, but for YOU to write in for your family's future generations to know about you.
